Trail to the Rutor waterfalls from La Thuile: times, difficulty, scenic points and where to park.
The Rutor waterfalls are three spectacular cascades fed by the Rutor glacier, reachable via a well-marked trail from La Thuile.
The starting point
Leave the car at the La Joux car park (1,620 m), a few km from La Thuile. Trail 3 climbs gradually through the woods to the first waterfall (about 45 minutes).
The three drops and Rifugio Deffeyes
Carrying on you reach the second drop and then the third, even more impressive. The trail continues to Rifugio Deffeyes (2,494 m, 3h30 from La Joux) with views of the glacier.
When to go
Best from mid-June to September. Avoid midday hours on the hottest days: the first section is exposed to the sun. Water and energy bars essential.
