Castello Brown dominates the Portofino piazzetta from the top of the headland: a historic mansion turned museum, with one of Italy's most famous views.
Castle history
A medieval fortress and later residence of British consul Montague Yeats Brown in the 19th century, today it is a civic museum and one of Italy's most sought-after civil-wedding venues.
What to see
Rooms furnished with period pieces, Brown family portraits and temporary photo exhibitions. The real highlight is the terrace facing Portofino's little harbour.
Hours and tickets
Open daily with extended summer hours until sunset. Ticket around €5, free under 12. Includes the climb towards the Portofino lighthouse on the same trail.
