One-day itinerary in Rapallo: castle on the sea, seafront, Montallegro cable car and where to eat in Tigullio.
Rapallo is the perfect base to explore the Tigullio: mild climate, elegant seafront and a stunning hinterland. In one day you can see the best of the town, from the castle on the sea to the Montallegro Sanctuary.
Morning: castle and old town
Start at the Castello sul Mare, built in 1551 against Saracen raids and now the city's symbol. A few steps away, the historic alleys hide artisan lace workshops, a Rapallo textile tradition.
Afternoon: cable car to Montallegro
Take the historic cable car (the first in Italy, 1934) to the Sanctuary of Our Lady of Montallegro: a ten-minute flight over olives and pinewoods up to 612 m. From the sanctuary square the gaze embraces the whole Tigullio.
Evening: aperitif on Lungomare Vittorio Veneto
Rapallo's seafront, shaded by palms, is perfect for an evening stroll. Aperitif at the historic cafés and a seafood dinner in a Corso Italia trattoria are the perfect ending.
