Rapallo cable car to Montallegro: the first Italian cable car, hours, tickets, Sanctuary and descent trail.
The Rapallo cable car, inaugurated in 1934, is the oldest in Italy. In eight minutes it carries you from the city centre to the Sanctuary of Our Lady of Montallegro at 612 m.
Hours and tickets
Open year-round with departures every 30 minutes. Round-trip ticket around €12, reduced for children and residents. Check for any February maintenance closures.
The Montallegro Sanctuary
Built in 1559 on the site of the Virgin's apparition to a peasant, it is a Tigullio pilgrimage destination. Inside it preserves marine ex-votos of great artistic value.
Descent trail
For those who want to walk down, a CAI path drops back to Rapallo via the Valle Christi monastery. Low difficulty, 1h30.
